Passage Journal Summer Fellowship 2027

A paid six-week reporting fellowship in Berlin for four students who want to write about education and politics. Each fellow publishes at least three pieces in Passage Journal.

Passage Journal covers education and political science for readers who want the explanation, not just the headline. Every summer it takes on four fellows to report alongside its editors.

The fellowship runs for six weeks from 28 June 2027 in Berlin. Fellows pitch, report and write their own stories, with an editor assigned to each of them: a news explainer, an interview and one longer piece on a subject of their choice. The first week is training in reporting, interviewing, fact-checking and writing for the web; after that the work is real, with real deadlines.

Berlin is a good place to learn the trade. The Bundestag sits until early July, the city is full of think tanks, embassies and universities, and federal education policy is argued over in public almost every week.

Fellows receive a stipend of €1,800 for the six weeks and have their flights and accommodation paid. They share a furnished flat in Kreuzberg.

Applications close on 28 February 2027. Along with your statement, add links to two things you have written (a school paper, a blog or coursework is fine) in the portfolio field. Shortlisted applicants do a paid one-day test edit in March.
